Add Firefox developer to Kali

Today I got rid of Firefox ESR and I installed the developer version. For those who are interested these are the steps:

  • visit from Kali https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/developer and click on the download button
  • you will get a ta.bz2 file in your download folder, unpack it (right click and Open with archive manager, then Extract)
  • you should get the firefox folder, I moved it in my /opt folder
  • from a shell execute
    /opt/firefox/firefox

    If you want to create a shortcut to add to your favourite tool bar create the file

    firefox_dev.desktop in ~/.local/share/applications

    will the following content:

    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=Firefox Developer
    GenericName=Firefox Developer Edition
    Exec=/opt/firefox/firefox
    Terminal=false
    Icon=/opt/firefox/browser/chrome/icons/default/default128.png
    Type=Application
    Categories=Application;Network;X-Developer;
    Comment=Firefox Developer Edition Web Browser

    Change the Exec and Icon values according to your Firefox path, the you can search the app and eventually add it to the favourite (right click on the icon)
