eMAPT Passed!

Recommended Posts

Today I received the email, now I am an eMAPT too!
I'm very happy for this achievement, I must say a biiiig thank you to @Vincent who always answered my strange questions :D

The course was good and provided me with a lot of new techniques and knowledges, I don't think that it's "uncomplete" as I heard (and said, my fault)
Yes lab guide would be helpful, but there is nothing in the course that cannot be learned with some self study, and for self study I mean just googling what you want to do :)

Plus, it was GREAT to exploit the lab's apks!

Congratulations on achieving this cert. A review on MAPT v.2 would be really nice :)

I found the course well written, I disagree with the ones that are complaing about the absence of the lab material (even if I initially was one of them, my fault)
Reading the material carefully and integrating with the online Android documentation is totally enough.

That's just a different approach to learning, if you are fine with doing some individual research you will succeed (and if you are an OSCP you are totally familiar with that concept ahahah )

I suggest to integrate the course material with the book "Mobile Hacker's Handbook".

P.S: I'm not saying that the other students that are complaing are stupid, I have the advantage of being an Android developer so a lot of concepts weren't new to me

Congratulations for your achievement!

I sent my PoC on friday and i'm patiently waiting for the result. :)

Regarding the lab material, I d'like to add that the absence of the lab material is still just that. As far as I know no one said the course material is not enough to pass the exam.
However, the material is just not up to par with the course i had the pleasure of doing beforehand. Where i did not have to use google all the time.

Cheers

@riccardoancarani94 @jander42 Thanks for writing this up. Just so I understand, what kind of lab material is missing? The way I have interpreted the course syllabus I believe you have to setup your own lab on your machine to test vulnerable .apks etc.

Please shed some more light because I am very much keen on doing this course after my eWAPTX :)

It's propably easier if i just quote me:

Quote

When i was doing the PTSv3 on elearning a little while ago, i found the labs very illuminating and helpful. You got a seperate presentation or pdf (can't remember) detailing what exactly you are supposed to do and half way through there was a SPOILER Tag after which you got the solution for the lab.

In this course, some labs are not commented at all nor are they explained in detail. I can't even find the solution for them so i don't really know if i did it right.

For example in the Reversing APK's section

We get 4 Labs:

  • Locating Secrets is explained in detail and has a solution slide.
  • Obfuscation has an explanation but no solution. Even though i don't think there is one.
  • Bypass Security Controls has no explanation and no solution
  • Simple app is not really a lab

And in the Static Code Analysis section there are 4 Labs, none if which get mentioned in a seperate slide.

Mind you i'm not saying it's not gonna be clear what to do,  it's to early to judge since i only just skimmed through most of the sections except for apk reversing. But i do miss the consistent structure from the ejPT which made things easier and more intuitive.

And as a side note, i only watched the SMALI video so far but the speaker sounded rather bored and kept explaining the same thing. The question why he knows that this is actual user supplied input at 9:00 is just dodged with saying that it is contextual and then repeating the same thing he said earlier.

I'll give a more complete review once i'm done with the course. So far i'm not as happy with this as i was with the ejPT. But then again i'm not even halfway through yet.

Mind you, some of this information might be inaccurate by now. In the eMAPT Forum there is a lot of info from users and someone from elearning posted more infos regarding the labs as well.
They also stated that they work on the walkthrough pdfs.
As riccardoancarani94 said, it's definitely doable, but its IMO not as streamlined and awesome as was PTSv3.

Kinda their own fault for setting the bar so high :D

Hope this helps.

@jander42 Thanks heaps for taking the time to write this. I think it gives me an idea of what to expect from this course.

I look forward to your thorough review once you complete the course. Cheers and best of luck :)
