Woo that a fun 7 hours. My First dip into any kind of security ( I am actually a electrician, so im not even in the it field yet x.x ) was a blast.

 

The exam had a few questions that were a little vague, and I missed one and have no idea which. 95 isn't too bad though. Does anyone know if they also grade you on your performance inside the lab?

 

I guess my next step now is on to OSCP/ Self Study.

 

All in all, this is a very enlightening course to take, and fun as well.

You have to take Penetration Testing Professional.Because It is more reliable for real world penetration testing.Ofcourse after eCPPT You can take what certificate you want.

i have done all online certifications from offsec.

 

what i can say is that in the offsec lab for the OSCP preperation, you have to share a lab with a lot of other students. and there are often problems, when you attack one system, while another person is attacking the same system. (or is reseting the machine!)

 

i would prefer the elearn style, because every student has his own "clear" environment.

 

if you are ready with eJPT and eCPTP, then i would take the OSCP...

 

just my opinion :-)

What are you thoughts on the OSCP vs eCPPT as far as skill level to tackle?

 

I'll add my $0.02 (or equivalent currency) to this.

 

I got my OSCP in February 2015 (after finishing my eCPPT in early 2014). I started taking the PWK course in June 2014. I found that doing the eCPPT first gave me a good foundation to build upon when going into the PWK course so a lot of the material was not foreign to me, and that was a good thing. There is a LOT of studying that you need to do on your own for the PWK course. The course materials/videos give you a high-level introduction to some of the concepts and such, but a lot of follow-up learning is left to the student. The lab is much larger than the eLS labs (I think there's something like 50+ machines in the student labs). Unlike the Hera model, your lab access is not individual (you share the labs with other students at the same time) and you don't have the hourly access like with Hera...it's all done by days, regardless of whether or not you log into the lab that day, it still counts towards your time.

 

If you have a family, I recommend trying to work out time to dedicate to study. I tried to do a couple hours a night for 3-7 nights (depending on the week) and I'm not sure that was really good. I would have preferred to have been able to spend 3-4 hours per day (minimum) every day in order to really get a handle on the course. I manged to do OK, but it was tough. I'm envious of those who have the ability to dedicate more time to the course.

 

One thing I kind of struggled with in taking this course was my desire to jump right in and start exploiting boxes in the lab. Having completed my eCPPT just a few months before, I was itching to get back into the lab environment and pop boxes. I should have taken a week or so to go through all of the course material and videos first...that would have saved me a lot of time in the long-run.

 

Coming from a position of not really having these types of skills before going into these two courses, I found taking the eCPPT first very beneficial as it gave me a good foundation of how to go about the process of penetration testing. The material and the labs from eCPPT were more along the lines of "here's this concept, here's a machine/lab to test this concept", kind of a direct relationship between the material and individual labs. Whereas with OSCP I found it to be more of "here's the concept, go into the lab and see if you can find a machine that matches the concept to exploit, perhaps with a few twists".
