I don't know if this tool is mentionned in the course but i came across this nice plugin on firefox to fingerprint web technologies used on a website. The name of the plugin is Wappalyzer. I found it quite useful;

There is also Whatweb: http://www.morningstarsecurity.com/research/whatweb, it's a CLI tool but still pretty useful.
